Those Listen members who attended the recent Group meeting where Dr Olly Tavabie spoke to us might recall he mentioned a study called “COBALT”.

This study will investigate immune responses of Kings patients post-transplant after COVID vaccines and will open imminently at Kings.  To help them find patients eligible for the study and interested to participate, patients are asked to respond as soon as possible to this request.

Attached is a spreadsheet which requests the required information (Click HERE to download the spreadsheet).  Ideally please download, complete and email the spreadsheet as soon as possible to revathi.arputham@nhs.net.

We are aware some people might not be familiar with using spreadsheets (or do not have the ability to open a spreadsheet on their device), in which case please put the information directly into the email.  The information required is as follows:

Name
Date of birth
Date of transplant
Previous Covid infection yes/no
If yes, date of swab result
Vaccinated yes/no
Vaccine – Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, Moderna, Janssen
Date of first vaccine
Date of second vaccine

Applications are requested within four weeks of the date of this communication.

Please note that not everyone who applies will be invited to take part. Kings would like, however, for this notification to reach as many patients as possible who had their liver transplant at Kings – or those who had their transplant elsewhere but attend Kings for follow up.  Therefore if you know anyone who meets this criteria but who might not receive Listen communications, do please pass this information on to them.  Please note that anyone who is accepted for this research will need to attend Kings for study involvement.

Due to the nature of this study, we do not have a definite timeline for presentation of results but it is likely to take many months.  However, Kings have undertaken to give Listen members an update as soon as an interim data analysis is available- this is likely to be early 2022.  This will happen at a Listen Group Zoom meeting and, on this occasion, we hope to make the information available afterwards in recorded form via the Listen Facebook Group and Listen Web Site (www.listenatkings.org) .

Many thanks for helping Kings with this important study which will guide how they advise our liver transplant patients going forward through the pandemic.
