Liver transplant patients should have been, or should be soon, contacted by their GP about flu and COVID-19 vaccination. If you are offered these vaccines we would recommend you have them. Neither of these are live vaccines so are perfectly safe for liver transplant recipients to have.

If you have had your transplant very recently, we would recommend you wait until 8 weeks after the operation to have your flu and COVID-19 vaccines. This is to try and improve the response your body has to the vaccine. There is a chance you will not have as good of a response to the vaccines but there is no risk from you having these.

If you live, or have regular close contact, with a child who has been offered the live nasal flu vaccine this is fine for them to have and you do not need to take additional precautions to avoid exposure.
