General Data Protection Regulations and LISTEN
On 25th May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) became law within the European Union. Its prime purpose is to confer protection to those individuals whose personal data is being processed by others be they companies or governments.
The regulations seek to ensure that all data processing is carried out with six basic principles in mind. These principles are as follows:
- Lawfulness, fairness and transparency.
It should be clear to data subjects who is using their data and for what purpose. - Purpose limitation.
Using data for purposes clearly not in the scope of the original use is not allowed. - Data minimisation.
Data collected should be the minimum for the purpose. No additional details such as phone numbers and bank details. - Accuracy.
Data should be current and correct and any data with errors should be deleted. - Storage limitation.
When the data ceases to be useful for analysis or use as a comparative record then it should be destroyed. - Integrity and confidentiality.
All data should be held securely and not open to interrogation by third parties
LISTEN is responsible for compliance to all the above principles and liable for penalties if any breaches occur.

LISTEN is a grouping of liver patients and hospital staff who aim to provide support to our fellow patients, particularly those who have had or will have a liver transplant at King’s College Hospital.
LISTEN is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of visitors to our website and recipients of our e-mails. In particular, we want you to know that we are not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other organisations for marketing or any other purpose. To clarify this we have produced this Privacy Policy with detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information and how we keep it secure
Like most websites, we use cookies to collect information. Cookies are small data files which are placed on your computer or other devices (such as smart ‘phones or ‘tablets’) as you browse this website. They are used to ‘remember’ when your computer or device accesses our websites. Some cookies collect information about browsing behaviour when you access this website via the same computer or device. This includes information about pages viewed and your journey around a website. We do not use cookies to collect or record information on your name, address or other contact details.

When someone visits our website we use a third party service to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. As part of the registration process to join LISTEN, we collect personal information. We use that information for various reasons: to tell you about forthcoming meetings; to contact you if we need to inform you of changing procedures ;pass on e-mails from other liver groups and researchers to you if we think they are relevant to you. We don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses.
